Heraldic Wolves-Heraldic Tygers
Much dispute exists between Heralds as to the difference between the Heraldic Tyger and the Heraldic Wolf. Many consider them inter-changeable. The Tyger (differs from the natural tiger), has the body of a wolf, tufted mane, a curved horn on the snout and a lion’s tail. The Heraldic wolf on the other hand has almost the identical same properties. Over the years, some heraldry designers have given the Heraldry Tyger different shaped ears so that one could tell the difference. AG subscribes to the position that they are indeed interchangeable, and we suspect the Heraldic Tyger was first on the scene, and because it had wolf features, it also became know as, the Heraldic Wolf.
Note: AG provides a separate folder for natural tigers, which generally were referenced as “Bengal” tigers, and more often you will see them blazoned “argent” or “proper”.
